Saturday Dec. 10 was a great day at Pine Trees. The Bible College team and the CCK Shaped by God team were on-hand to share Joy of Christ among the participants. They gave many people the opportunity to accept the Lord into their lives.

The company’s statement says, ” All Red Eye Clothing is a clothing line that gives kids a better way of getting “red eyes” other than drugs, like surfing all day, skating all night, studying all night even praying.

Anyone can relate to having all red eyes and All Red Eye Clothing wants to show people how they can be in part of striving for something and steering away from drugs.

All Red Eye Clothing sponsors and works with various athletes who succeed not only in their sport but in life by following their passion and not turning to drugs. Body Boarding is one of those many passions.

This Kauai Clothing company wants to help support kids and adults to continue in their sport. We want everyone to have fun in a safe and drug free environment!”

Volunteer Organizations: Kauai Bible College, Calvary Chapel, Shaped by God

It time to sign up for the annual Men’s Kalalau Kayak voyage (no women). Because the state only allows a limited number of permits each week, permits need to be reserved now even though the trip isn’t until August 17 through 19! Permits have to be obtained online at www.hawaiistateparks.org. What if you are wondering, “How do I know if I’ll be able to go that far in advance?” If you can’t go, the group will still have the reservation and you can give it to someone who decides to go at the last minute. Any of the men interested must also speak with David Gregson; he will have a sign up sheet at the Information Table for the next 3 weeks.

The men launch from Ke’e beach, paddle approx. 4.5 miles to Kalalau, then 9.5 miles from Kalalau to Polihale. You will be staying at Kalalau both nights. There will be hiking too.

David Gregson (652-7181) has a sheet with more information for the guys interested in joining this trek. Don’t miss out!!!

Aloha my church family!! Although presently I’m in Romania so perhaps I should say buna ziua (boonah zeewah).

I miss you all so much. Your love and support has been great. I am blessed by your notes, your prayers and your financial giving. Leaving Kauai was hard; its the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. And leaving people who provide me safety, comfort and love was even harder. Now, halfway around the world, I realize that physical distance cannot interfere with love. I have felt loved, even in my absence. While my heart may ache for you, sharing God’s love in 3 countries over the past 3 months has been amazing.

I started my World Race journey July 5th, flying to SantoDomingo, Dominican Republic where we had a 4 day orientation. We then traveled by bus to SanJuan. My team worked with a small church in an agricultural village outside the city called Las Charcas. We lead VBS and the church services, visited the people of the village in their homes to evangelize and pray for the sick, and in our time off went hiking in the mountains.

The pastor of the church, Pastor Manuel, was born in Las Charcas, but moved away 30 years ago. God has lead him back there, to a place where he walks the streets and everyone knows him by name and remembers when he was a child in their village. For the past 10 years Pastor Manuel has served the community, planting a church and reaching out to this village. His heart for the community shows in every action, when he speaks to the people his eyes shine with God’s love. You can be praying for him; that God would begin to raise up leaders in the church to help him and that the people would begin to take ownership of the church becoming active participants, rather than just showing up to services as passive guests.

The next leg of my journey was just next door to the Dominican Republic, but a world away. Haiti. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and that was before the earthquake. While the headlines are long past, the earthquake that happened in January is still an everyday reality for the people of Haiti. The streets of Port-au-Prince are filled with the dust and grit of crumbled buildings, piles of rubble occupy the spaces that used to be buildings, tent cities cover every inch of what used to be parks and soccer fields.

In Haiti my team was staying about half an hour outside Port-au-Prince on a 66 acre mission compound that was home to a number of ministries. I spent most of my time there working in a burn clinic. The people in the villages cook over open fires, so mostly we saw children burned by boiling water. I washed the wounds and changed dressings. I couldn’t speak with most of the people because of the language barrier, but I was usually humming praise songs and praying for my patients while tending the burns.

My team was also part of a mobile medical outreach, taught Sunday school and painted houses recently built for people who lost their homes in the earthquake. Haiti is desperately in need of your prayers. Our team spoke with a local pastor who told us he believed the greatest weapon the enemy is attacking Haiti with is chaos. Spend a minute on the streets and you will see the truth of this; honking horns, no lanes, enormous pot holes and rubble, no apparent traffic laws. But it doesn’t stop there, from the highest reaches of a corrupt government to the villages and families, there is no order in Haiti. Pray for Haiti’s families to be strengthened; that order and structure would begin to give life to a country besieged with chaos.

From Haiti we flew to Ireland, with a short layover at JFK airport in New York, where I got to have dinner with my mom. Moms are wonderful! Mine drove 5 hours just to see me for an hour and a half.

In Ireland we attended a conference with all 5 present World Race squads in attendance, plus some alumni. All together there were about 300 of us. It was 4 days packed with teaching and amazing praise and worship. If I could sum it up in a few words it would be “FILL US UP, SEND US OUT.”

Back to the present, I am in Romania. Our ministry this month is at Potter’s House, an after school program for underprivileged children. The program does Bible studies, offers help with homework and teaches English, in addition to a number of other activities such as crafts, games and sports. I have been spending time with the older girls in the program. God has put them on my heart; specifically to encourage them, to come alongside them in their walk with God and to pray for them. They are at a time in life when they are very susceptible to peer pressure and to the desire to look to a relationship to fulfill them rather than God.

Throughout my time on this trip God has been doing amazing things in my life and in the lives of others. Sometimes we are meeting a tangible need, sometimes we are merely coming alongside other believers to encourage them and love them, sometimes we spend our days doing prayer walks through the cities or towns where we are staying, sometimes we are doing evangelism and outreach, but always we are doing God’s work; being His hands and feet to the nations.

God has given me freedom and peace. The more I see of the world the more I realize the gift I have and the need that is in others; the hunger for God that so many try to fill with the things of the world, all the while unaware that God is what they are truly seeking.

I have 8 more months and 8 more countries full of people to love. You can follow along with my adventures at CarrieMiranda.TheWorldRace.org.

Thank you again for all you support and love. I wouldn’t be here without the church at Calvary Chapel Kauai and you, my friends, are the church!

God bless!
